Gbs: Milan dodged a loan bullet as Flamengo fans are already booing Emerson Royal…see more

The former AC Milan right-back Emerson Royal hasn’t had the best of starts to life in Brazil, with Flamengo fans already turning on him. Without a doubt, the Rossoneri dodged a bullet.

After spending €15m to secure his services from Tottenham, Milan were inevitably very disappointed with Emerson Royal’s performances in 2024-25. Aside from a few (and we mean a few) good moments here and there, he never really impressed.

As such, the Rossoneri opted to part ways with him this summer after reaching a €9m agreement with Flamengo (a capital loss on the books). However, they nearly sent him to Besiktas on loan with option to buy, as it was only at the last second that the Brazilian side swooped in.

With that background in mind, it’s safe to say that Milan dodged a massive bullet as Emerson Royal has had a tough start in Brazil. Just four games into his tenure, the Flamengo fans are already booing him and after the most recent game, he said the following (via MilanNews)…

“It will never hinder me. I’m an experienced player. It’s normal. The fans have the right to boo. If I wasn’t able to play at my level, 100%, they have the right to blame me. I think my initial problem, the sprain, ended up affecting my game. I couldn’t jump or change direction,” he stated.

In short, Milan can consider themselves pleased with the deal despite the capital loss. Just getting his wages of the books was a big win…
