Arsenal have cut almost £38million from their annual wage bill after several high-profile exits this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Thomas Partey was released following the expiration of his contract on 30 June, while Jorginho and Kieran Tierney’s deals were also not extended.
Elsewhere, Takehiro Tomiyasu agreed to mutually terminate his contract, which was due to expire in June 2026.
Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos have signed for Lazio and Cruzeiro, with Arsenal agreeing modest deals for both players.
Raheem Sterling and Neto spent last season on loan at the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea and Bournemouth, but Arsenal decided against signing them permanently.
Mikel Arteta has been looking to revamp his side after finishing second in the Premier League table in back-to-back campaigns.
Partey is the highest-earning star to have left the Emirates, with his deal worth a reported £200,000 a week.
The 32-year-old, who has joined Villarreal this summer, registered nine goals and seven assists during his five-year spell in north London.
Elsewhere, Tierney and Jorginho were both on around £110,000 weekly before their exits.
Tierney has re-joined boyhood club Celtic, while Jorginho penned a deal with Flamengo.
Tomiyasu, who is yet to sign for a new club, is believed to have earned around £100,000 a week during his time at the Emirates.
Although Sterling’s wages at Chelsea are worth in excess of £300,000 a week, Arsenal are understood to have only been paying around £97,000 of his weely salary.
Neto, who has signed for Botafogo from Bournemouth, earned £50,000 during his loan spell with the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Taveres and Marquinhos’s deals were both worth £30,000 a week before their exits.
Sources have told Football Insider Arsenal have saved £37.8million in wages following the departures of those eight players.
Arsenal have balanced their exits out with several new additions this summer.
Viktor Gyokeres became Arsenal’s latest recruit when he joined from Sporting Lisbon in a £64million deal.
The Gunners have also signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera and Noni Madueke in recent weeks.
Arsenal have now spent close to £200million on new signings, while talks are still ongoing over a deal for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who has also been linked with north London rivals Tottenham.
