Arsenal star Leandro Trossard has signed a new contract at the club, according to reports – with the Belgian star having had an increased wage to reflect his importance to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arsenal have been busy in the transfer market this window, signing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting and Noni Madueke from rivals Chelsea to pad out their attacking ranks in a huge summer of spending from sporting director Andrea Berta. However, with Trossard having played a huge role in their campaign last season, he’s now been rewarded for his strong form with a pay rise, increasing his importance at the Emirates Stadium after two-and-a-half-years in north London.
The report by The Athletic states that a ‘significant’ pay rise has been awarded to the former Brighton winger, having reached an agreement on a contract adjustment – increasing his salary, but not extending the time of his deal in the capital, with a contract until 2027 still intact for the attacker.
There have not been any significant developments regarding Trossard potentially leaving the club in the remaining fortnight of the transfer window, with the forward having begun talks with Arsenal for some time over improved pay.
Aston Villa were one club linked with a move for the Belgian earlier in the window, having seen Marcus Rashford fail to stay at the club after a successful six-month loan spell in the west Midlands last season, but any move for him is now off the cards after Arsenal’s decision to hand him a higher salary.
Trossard joined Arsenal in a cut-price deal back in January 2023, adding to their squad depth – and although he failed to nail down a starting spot, he’s been increasingly important to them as time has gone on, notching 17 goals in 46 games in the 2023/24 campaign, including 12 in the Premier League.
He featured in every single Premier League game last season, scoring eight times in the league, and featured in 56 matches in all competitions as the Gunners found themselves in the Champions League semi-finals – showing the dependability that Arteta has in the diminutive goalscorer.
He will continue to compete for minutes with Gabriel Martinelli on the left flank, as well as offering versatility by being able to play up front and on the right-wing for the Gunners – keen to win silverware with the club after a five-year duck without winning a single major honour.
