Alexis Saelemaekers has been singled out for praise after his performance in Sunday’s Coppa Italia win against Bari.
Saelemaekers spent 2024-25 on loan at Roma and had a brilliant second half of the season, making the right wing-back role his own under Claudio Ranieri. The Giallorossi wanted to make the dry loan permanent, but Milan brought him back and Massimiliano Allegri got to work with him.
Saelemaekers earns praise
Tuttosport (via MilanPress) asks this morning: ‘Does San Siro have a new idol?’ Saelemaekers stole the show in the season’s first match against Bari in the Coppa Italia, combining quality with hard work both phases of play.
It was something that didn’t go unnoticed by the San Siro crowd, who showered him with applause. The paper describes him as a ‘new signing’ for Milan after two seasons spent out on loan.
His own personal ‘Giro d’Italia’ (Tour of Italy) now seems over, and he’s ready to settle permanently in Milan as a more mature and complete player.
Saelemaekers’ characteristics matched the new coach’s ideas well and things have got off to a good start. The club took note and took action, because they will apparently begin discussing Saelemaekers’ contract renewal in the coming weeks.
