MN: Bundesliga club pushes Arsenal to slash asking price for brilliant player…see more

Arsenal have been urged by Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart to significantly lower their asking price for midfielder Fabio Vieira, as the Gunners continue efforts to trim their squad and balance finances following an expensive summer transfer window.

According to The Sun’s Jordan Davies, Arsenal are keen to recover as much of the £30 million they paid Porto for Vieira in 2023 as possible. While the club has already reduced their valuation to around £25 million, Stuttgart are reportedly only willing to pay a maximum of £17 million, including add-ons.

Vieira, 25, has endured a difficult spell in North London, struggling to secure a regular role under Mikel Arteta. He spent last season on loan at Porto, making 42 appearances in all competitions, but has not convinced Arsenal of his long-term prospects. His absence from the matchday squad in Arsenal’s 1-0 Premier League opening win over Manchester United on Sunday highlighted his uncertain future.

Stuttgart’s pursuit of Vieira follows the departure of French midfielder Enzo Millot, who joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli in a deal worth up to £26 million. The German club view Vieira as a direct replacement but may abandon negotiations if Arsenal refuse to compromise on price.

The situation underscores Arsenal’s pressing need to raise funds, with the club navigating UEFA’s Financial Fair Play restrictions despite staying within Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The Gunners have already invested around £200 million this summer on signings such as Viktor Gyokeres (£63.5m), Martin Zubimendi (£51m), and Noni Madueke (£42m). Moving on fringe players like Vieira is considered key to financing any further additions before the transfer deadline.

Porto president Andre Villas-Boas has previously expressed interest in bringing Vieira back permanently, but the Portuguese giants remain unable to meet Arsenal’s financial demands.
