Breaking News: Arsenal planning move for £80m Premier League star after sealing Eberechi Eze deal…see more

Arsenal are on the verge of completing a stunning £68 million transfer for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein reporting that the 27-year-old has agreed personal terms with the north London club.

The deal, which is expected to be finalised after Palace’s UEFA Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad on Thursday, matches the value of Eze’s recently expired release clause. It marks a significant coup for Arsenal, who saw off late competition from Tottenham Hotspur to secure the England international’s signature.

Eze’s arrival continues a statement summer for the Gunners, who have already invested heavily in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. Manager Mikel Arteta is intent on reshaping his frontline ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, particularly after Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury that has reduced Arsenal’s attacking depth.

While Havertz’s setback is not believed to be an ACL tear, it has prompted the club to explore further midfield reinforcements. Reports suggest Arsenal are weighing up a late move for Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers.

According to The Sun, Rogers is high on the Gunners’ list, with sporting director Andrea Berta exploring options to provide cover in the attacking midfield role. The 23-year-old impressed under Unai Emery last season, registering 18 Premier League goal contributions. However, Villa, having already sold Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle for £40m are under no pressure to cash in and could demand as much as £80m for their rising star.

Chelsea are also thought to be monitoring Rogers as an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, though Arsenal’s injury concerns may push them to act first. Rogers, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024, signed a long-term deal last November that runs until 2030.

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s pursuit of a new left-winger remains on hold unless departures free up funds. Leandro Trossard had been linked with an exit earlier in the summer but is now expected to extend his stay at the Emirates with an improved contract.

Arteta’s side opened their league campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United and will look to build momentum when they host Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
