Arsenal continued their impressive start to the season with a comprehensive 5-0 win against Leeds United at the Emirates.
It was the perfect performance for Mikel Arteta, the Gunners dominated the newly promoted side and have now moved to the top of the Premier League table.
Viktor Gyokeres opened his Gunners account in scintillating fashion before adding another goal, whereas Jurrien Timber produced a Man of the Match display in North London.
Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard somewhat put a dampener on what was otherwise a straightforward afternoon for the hosts.
However, it was what Arsenal did off the pitch on Saturday that caught Jamie O’Hara’s attention, and the former Tottenham man was not one bit pleased.
When speaking live on talkSPORT, O’Hara dubbed Arsenal “embarrassing” as they announced the signing of Eberechi Eze via social media before unveiling the midfielder at the Emirates.
“What have I just watched there? Seriously, what am I watching? It’s embarrassing, mate, Wrighty should know better as well.”
His co-host Jason Cundy admitted it is a great signing for Arsenal, to which O’Hara responded: “No, he’s a good player. He ain’t Messi. Do you know what I mean? Come on, he’s a decent player. They’re bigging him up like they’ve signed Erling Haaland.”
Arsenal agreed a £68 million deal to sign Eze from Crystal Palace after reigniting their interest in the player following a long-term injury to Kai Havertz.
The Gunners stole Eze from under their North London rivals – Eze had agreed to join Tottenham, but he completed a sensational U-turn once Arsenal firmed up their interest.
His signing represents a sensational coup for the club, bringing Arsenal’s spending close to £1bn since Arteta took charge in 2019.
Arsenal have, of course, finished runners-up in the Premier League for three consecutive years, but they have worked tirelessly throughout the summer to bolster the squad, with Eze being the latest addition, and certainly showcased their title credentials on Saturday.
Although Eze is expected to fit seamlessly into the starting line-up at the Emirates, he is now nailed on to make his debut for the club at Anfield.
Early signs indicate Saka and Odegaard will be ruled out for the clash against the Premier League champions, alongside Havertz.
Eze has a history of impressive displays when playing against Liverpool for Crystal Palace, and Arteta will undoubtedly be leaning on his new talisman to replicate that form for Arsenal.
The Gunners have managed to avoid defeat in their last four trips to Liverpool, but with pressure on to deliver silverware this season, another draw may not be enough to appease the fans.
