Report: Arsenal monitoring River Plate winger Ian Subiabre…see more

Arsenal have inquired about signing River Plate winger Ian Subiabre this summer, according to Spanish outlet Diario AS.

The Gunners have spent £250 million on seven players so far this summer but are not done yet from the look of things.

Arsenal have sent emissaries to Buenos Aires to monitor the situation of the Argentine youth international.

However, the North London club will face competition from Barcelona and Chelsea if they want to make a concrete move for the 18-year-old sensation.

Subiabre has a release clause of £26m in his contract, and the Gunners could be open to activating it.

They are also looking to bolster their defence with the addition of versatile Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie.

The Ecuador international could cost £50m, and buying him and the River Plate star would see Arsenal spend over £300m this summer.

The Gunners are prepared to make more additions, but they may need to sell first before any player is signed in the coming days.

Despite his huge potential, Subiabre is one for the future and whether Arsenal will make any concrete move for him right now remains to be seen.

He will be joining their youth ranks should they complete a deal this summer or next January given the plethora of attacking options available to manager Mikel Arteta.

However, the youngster is unlikely to be open to such an arrangement having been playing first-team football since last year.

An immediate move for Hincapie looks more realistic, and the onus will be on Arteta to deliver the Premier League title this term after such an outlay.

His transfer expenditure since becoming Arsenal boss in December 2019 has moved to around £1.1 billion following the signing of Eze, with a net spend of approximately £750m.

He has to show a title for it, and a fine start to the 2025-26 has given the fans plenty of hope.
