FC Porto are optimistic they can agree a deal to sign Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal this week, with the Gunners seemingly lining up a move for Piero Hincapie for that scenario.
Ben Jacobs reported on Sunday that Porto are optimistic about the signing of Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal on a loan with an obligation to buy. Though nothing is finalised just yet, Porto are reportedly hoping for an agreement by early this week.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Monday morning that Porto remain active in talks for Kiwior ahead of a new bid, with Arsenal already turning one offer down.
Romano then added later that a Porto bid of over €20m will go in this week, and that the situation could be key to Arsenal’s pursuit of a new centre-back.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a late move for Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen, with David Ornstein among those to confirm the Gunners are interested and that the player is prioritising them over the alternatives.
Fabrizio Romano had reported that Tottenham Hotspur were offering a loan with a €60m (£52m) obligation to buy, but just like Eberechi Eze, the player would seemingly prefer the other side of north London.
In spite of Hincapie’s €60m release clause in Leverkusen, Ben Jacobs reports that the player is asking to leave for a fee in the region of €45m. That could make the deal more realistic to Arsenal, especially if Kiwior leaves for significantly over €20m.
Previous reports had suggested that Porto’s initial bid for Kiwior was a €7m loan with a €20m obligation to buy, though Fabrizio Romano’s reporting that the new bid will only be “over €20m” casts some doubt on the previous bid claims.
If Porto really did have a €27m package turned down, they’d presumably need to offer even more than that to have any chance of success this time around.
The coming days should provide some answers one way or another.
