Manchester City star Jack Grealish has praised Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou for their impressive start to the 2023/24 Premier League season. Spurs, who remain unbeaten in the league, current sit top of the table, two points above Man City after Pep Guardiola’s side suffered back-to-back league defeats to Wolves and Arsenal prior to the international break.
The Gunners have also not lost in the league this season, having matched their north London rivals’ exact results and goal difference, however they sit second with less goals scored. While the Lilywhites have played the current bottom four of Luton, Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Burnley, seven points from a possible nine have also been secured against Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Although Spurs sit above last season’s title rivals, most pundits are dismissing the idea they will be in the hunt for the Premier League crown come May 2024. Following the latest round of Premier League fixtures, Gary Neville explained why he doesn’t think Spurs are in the title race, despite their strong start.
“The key for Tottenham is to keep their best players fit,” he said. “I don’t think Tottenham can sustain it over a 38-game season in my honest opinion, I think their squad will get found out in the end but they are going to have a lot of fun, it’ll be a rollercoaster and they’ve got a manager who I think belongs at the club, so it’s all positive for Tottenham but I don’t see them hanging in there towards the end even though it’s very early.”
Depth is a significant issue for Postecoglou, but that problem could have been lessened had Spurs completed a transfer in 2018. While at Aston Villa, Grealish was on the verge of signing for Spurs but the move fell apart at the final hurdle.
Now at City, with two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and Champions League under his belt, Grealish has delivered his latest verdict on Spurs with significant praise for Postecoglou. “I think they’ve been brilliant,” he said in an England press conference.

“To start the season the way they have with the football their playing and they’re coming into the international break top of the table. I obviously knew that he [Ange Postecoglou] was a good manager from his Celtic days, but to come and do it in the Premier League is a little bit tougher but I feel like he’s been brilliant for them.”
