Liverpool is often linked with a variety of players who the club has no real interest in. Like Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid, it comes with a lot of prestige to be named as someone that one of the biggest clubs in the world is keeping an eye on.
For that reason, it can often be difficult to work out which links are genuine and which are entirely fabricated somewhere along the line, perhaps by an agent hoping to attach their client’s name to a team like Liverpool. It is also true that the Reds watch a lot of players. Few out there will not have been scanned at some point at some level of data or scouting.
So while stories might even say that Liverpool has ‘watched’ a player or that scouts have been sent to keep an eye on them, that does not mean they are an imminent arrival. It could be for a long-term transfer target years in the future, or may never come to fruition at all.
One thing is certain, though: Liverpool will, at some point, have to navigate the near-impossible task of trying to find a replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Anfield legend is under contract until 2025, but that means he will only have one year left on his deal at the end of the season and therefore speculation around that situation is mounting.
Arsenal willing to splash out for Liverpool-linked ace
Arsenal is willing to pay as much as $21m (£17m/€20m) for Belgian wonderkid Arthur Vermeeren, Spanish outlet Fichajes reports, though Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona are all also said to be keen on the 18-year-old.
Vermeeren has made a breakthrough for Royal Antwerp and played a significant role for them last season as they won the league. Barcelona may not be able to afford to sign him while Arsenal wants a replacement for Jorginho.
Liverpool transfer would net Man City transfer boost
As Salah continues to be linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, Liverpool is supposedly, according to the Daily Mirror, interested in signing Leroy Sané. But that move, should it happen, would mean Manchester City feeling a benefit.
That is because Pep Guardiola’s side inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that saw the German sign for Bayern Munich. According to a Manchester Evening News report from the time, it is worth 10 per cent, and with Liverpool said to be willing to spend $97m (£80m/€92m)-plus on Sané, that would be a substantial windfall.
