A manager Tottenham and Chelsea have sacked in the not-too-distant past has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Los Blancos may already be lining up alternatives amid uncertainty over Carlo Ancelotti’s future ahead of the end of this season.
Ancelotti, who has won everything there is to win in his second spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, is out of contract at the end of this season. The Italian is a favourite among many Los Blancos fans having won almost everything during his first spell with the club before returning and going one better.
Ancelotti has been heavily linked with the Brazil job, and there have been reports that he already has a deal in place to lead the South American nation, but Spanish reports claim that is not the case.
In fact, Mundo Deportivo claim that if Real Madrid were to offer a contract extension, Ancelotti would be willing to accept it. Los Blancos are currently top of the table, two points ahead of Girona and three ahead of rivals Barcelona.
Still, with uncertainty over Ancelotti, Real Madrid are said to be considering alternatives, and the same report claims former Chelsea, Tottenham and Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho is under consideration. Mourinho is currently with AS Roma, but his contract expires at the end of this season, and reports in Italy have claimed he could leave amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Mourinho won a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa during his previous spell with Real Madrid, between 2010 and 2013, and that was no mean feat during Pep Guardiola’s golden Barcelona era. The Portuguese installed a no-nonsense, physical style at Real Madrid.
Since then, he returned to Chelsea to win a Premier League and League Cup, while he also had a spell at Tottenham – where he was sacked after less than two years – and Manchester United. His most recent success came at current club AS Roma, where he won the Europa Conference League in 2022. Real Madrid are also said to be considering former boss Zinedine Zidane and former player Xabi Alonso, who currently manages Bayer Leverkusen.
