Five Liverpool talking points Everton defeats them 2-0.Five factors to consider after Liverpool defeated Everton 2-0.

Mohamed Salah’s second-half double gave Liverpool a 2-0 victory over Everton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

After the visitors had Ashley Young sent off close to half-time, Salah converted from the spot in the 75th minute to give the Reds the lead and then wrapped up the points deep into injury time.

Here are five talking points from the match…

Salah delivers again

On his 150th appearance for the club at Anfield, Salah sailed clear of Steven Gerrard and Sir Kenny Dalglish by netting his 104th and 105th goal at the famous stadium.

Having moved level with the icons on the Reds’ all-time Anfield scorers list, the Egyptian then claimed outright sixth spot by finishing towards the end.

It also maintained his truly astonishing goal-contribution rate of late. Salah has now been involved in 29 goals in his last 24 Premier League appearances for Liverpool (18 goals, 11 assists).

At Anfield, he’s either scored or assisted in his last 13 Premier League outings. Only Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry have a longer run in the division’s history.

This was Jürgen Klopp’s 18th Merseyside derby and he maintained his excellent record in one of the fixtures supporters savour most.

When it was raised to the boss pre-match that he had only lost one of his clashes with Everton, he duly replied: “One too much!”

But this latest success means he’s now tasted victory on 11 occasions, drawing six times.

And he certainly enjoyed it, delivering his trademark fist bumps not just towards the Kop but in the direction of the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and Main Stand as well.

A shutout saw Alisson Becker move level with Tommy Lawrence for clean sheets in league Merseyside derbies with seven.

Only two other Liverpool goalkeepers now boast a better total.

Next in the Brazilian’s sights is Pepe Reina’s eight before he can look to chase the record held by Ray Clemence (14).

An impressive scoring run continues

Liverpool have now netted in each of their last 22 matches in all competitions.

It’s a run that began following the goalless draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April, with the Reds scoring a total of 55 goals since then.

A busy period begins

There’s probably no better way to kickstart a demanding period than taking three points off your local rivals.

This game was the first of seven in a sprint to the next international break in November.

Klopp and his men will look to use this result as a springboard to build on their strong start in the Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup.
