How Manchester United should lineup for their Premier League matchup vs Luton Town

Manchester United welcome newly promoted Luton Town to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

United’s hopes of progressing to the knockout rounds of the Champions League took a major blow in midweek following a 4-3 defeat against FC Copenhagen and a win against Luton before the international break is required.

Erik ten Hag’s side have a strong record against teams towards the bottom half of the table and Luton were the favourites to be relegated at the start of the season, although they did draw against Liverpool at the weekend.

Regarding the team news, Marcus Rashford’s red card in the Champions League has no impact on his availability in the league and Jonny Evans, who went off injured against Copenhagen, has been ruled out of the match.

United were so good when it was 11 v 11 in Copenhagen the only change should be enforced. Raphael Varane is the obvious replacement for Jonny Evans.

Scott McTominay has done decently of late, Christian Eriksen’s creativity will be needed against what is bound to be a reticent Luton, Rashford and Aaron Wan-Bissaka showed promise down the right, Alejandro Garnacho has produced more mature performances from the start, Bruno Fernandes had telling impacts in midweek and Rasmus Hojlund was back among the goals.

Another midweek defeat does not mean United should rip up and start again. Evans misses out due to injury and Reguilon has to be worth a go on the left again.

Mount is yet to shine in a United shirt and this is the type of game in which he should. He doesn’t deserve to start on current form but he needs another opportunity to show why Ten Hag wanted him so much.

The front three linked up really well at times against Copenhagen and there is no reason for any changes there.

Evans has been ruled out of this match, which means there is a choice to make between Lindelof and Varane. The Frenchman was awful from the bench against Copenhagen but should get another chance to play here.

Reguilon should also replace Dalot in the starting team, as Dalot is not a natural left-back and he was at fault in midweek.

United enjoyed their best 40 minutes of the season until Rashford was sent off on Wednesday night and the remainder of the team should stay the same.
