After Tottenham’s tough defeat against Chelsea on Monday night, Spurs will be looking to return to winning ways in Saturday’s early kick-off against Wolves.
What looked to be a great night in NW1 quickly turned into a nightmare for Spurs, with the Lilywhites falling to a 4-1 defeat against rivals Chelsea and dropping to second in the Premier League table. Two red cards and a number of injuries worsened the situation, meaning we can expect a much-changed line-up from Ange Postecoglou on Saturday.
Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie will miss out through suspension, whilst Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both picked up injuries in the defeat, ruling them both out of contention for the trip to Wolves. Saturday’s opposition have proved a tough test for Spurs since their return to the Premier League in 2018, with the Lilywhites winning just five of their 10 clashes in the league.
We predict that the hosts could set up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with their line-up as follows.
Despite the new-look squad, Spurs started strongly at Molineux, with Brennan Johnson striking the post just seven minutes in after getting the best of his marker down the left. The chances kept coming for Spurs, and they capitalised on their strong start when they took the lead 24 minutes in.
As Spurs hit the hosts on the break, Dejan Kulusevski squared up his marker on the right before cutting in onto his left and floating a cross into the box. Heung-Min Son managed to peel away from his marker to meet the cross, and the striker volleyed into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
Despite Spurs’ dominance, a mistake saw Pedro Porro dispossessed 25 yards from goal by Matheus Cunha, and the Brazilian managed to round Eric Dier before firing into the roof of the net to make it 1-1 just before the break. Wolves came out the much better side in the second half after finding the equaliser, and a period of pressure saw the hosts grab a second to turn the game on its head.
