It’s official, the international break is over. Next up, it’s the big one.
Liverpool of course makes the trip to Manchester City on Saturday for what is the biggest game of the season so far. With the Reds sitting just one point behind the defending Premier League champion ahead of kick-off, it’s the perfect chance to earmark themselves as title challengers.
And Jürgen Klopp’s men will be heading back to Merseyside in red-hot form, with Liverpool players contributing to 20 goals during the international break. That should certainly give the visitor every reason to feel confident.
City, meanwhile, head into the game with injury doubts piling up for Pep Guardiola, while questions over their 115 charges from the Premier League are growing after Everton was hit with a 10-point deduction last week.
Speaking of which, Toffees fans are planning on making a statement ahead of Saturday’s big game at the Etihad, while Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United looks to be coming to an end. Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.
Everton protest set for Man City vs Liverpool
Everton fans are set to fly a protest banner over the Etihad Stadium ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City on Saturday. It comes after the Reds’ Merseyside neighbor was hit with a 10-point deduction for a breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
In a statement, Everton supporters group The 1878s confirmed a plan to stage a protest during Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at the Etihad. “We have had a lot of requests asking for a plane to be flown over Goodison Park on Sunday, with a message to the Premier League. Due to our kick-off time, it will be dark,” the group wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“So instead a plane will fly over the Etihad Stadium on Saturday for Manchester City vs Liverpool which will be watched by millions around the world. Once the banner is made from the company we can release a picture of this.”
Liverpool.com says: You suspect the time of day might not be the only reason why Everton fans might want to fly a banner over the Etihad, with City also facing its own charges. It’s one to keep an eye out for on Saturday.
Jadon Sancho makes transfer decision
Jadon Sancho will not join a club in Saudi Arabia in January, according to The Telegraph. The Manchester United outcast looks likely to be on the move when the January transfer window opens, having not featured for the club since publicly criticizing manager Erik ten Hag.
Sancho is said to be attracting interest from former club Borussia Dortmund, as well as Juventus and clubs from the Saudi Pro League. The player though would prefer to continue his career in Europe.
