Manchester City returned to Premier League action this lunchtime and were held second-placed Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side kicked off what will be a hectic winter schedule with their biggest game of the campaign so far, a clash between the league’s current top two and likely title challengers. Liverpool have returned to their best form this season and have lost just once.
City had Erling Haaland fit and firing for the clash after he trained with the group earlier this week. The 23-year-old missed Norway’s trip to Scotland due to an ankle injury. And he made an impact yet again, giving City a first-half lead and in the process setting a new record for the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the Premier League.
But Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold hit a sweetly-struck equaliser in the closing stages to see the points shared.
Jack Grealish missed the match due to illness which meant that Jeremy Doku started along with Julian Alvarez in a potent attack. Nathan Ake and Ederson overcame their injury concerns to make the starting lineup while John Stones made a surprise return to the squad and takes his place on the bench.
