Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an 88th-minute winner as Liverpool came from behind to beat Fulham 4-3 in a Premier League thriller at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds twice led in the first half, but looked to be heading for defeat when Cottagers substitute Bobby De Cordova-Reid headed home 10 minutes from time.

But another substitute, Wataru Endo, levelled with three minutes remaining before Alexander-Arnold delivered a superb strike from the edge of the box to maintain the hosts’ flawless home record this season.

Earlier, Alexander-Arnold’s sublime free-kick had deflected in off Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno to give Liverpool the lead, but ex-Red Harry Wilson levelled soon after.

Alexis Mac Allister’s 25-yard thunderbolt restored the home side’s advantage, but Kenny Tete squeezed in a second equaliser for Fulham before half-time.

Having rung the changes for Thursday’s Europa League clash with LASK, Jürgen Klopp did so again here, making six alterations to his starting XI.

In came Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk in defence, Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield and Darwin Nunez in attack, as the Reds looked to record an 11th straight Anfield win.

Liverpool: Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Matip (Konate, 69), Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Mac Allister (Gomez, 64), Szoboszlai (Gakpo, 64), Gravenberch (Endo, 83), Salah, Nunez, Diaz.

Unused substitutes: Adrian, Quansah, Jones, Elliott, Doak.

First half

Liverpool started the game brightly, with Luis Diaz’s snapshot drawing a save from Leno inside the opening three minutes.

Mohamed Salah had a goal ruled out for an offside against Diaz shortly after, after Leno had spilled a Szoboszlai piledriver.

The Reds were ahead on 20 minutes, and in stunning fashion, Alexander-Arnold whipping a quite brilliant 25-yard free-kick in via the underside of the bar and the back of Leno, after Szoboszlai had been fouled.

The home side’s lead last only five minutes, though, Fulham equalising as Wilson turned Antonee Robinson’s low cross home at the near post.

Robinson then had a shot deflected wide as the visitors found their feet, while at the other end Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk both saw efforts blocked.

Liverpool regained the lead six minutes before half-time in spectacular style, Mac Allister thundering in a 25-yard, dipping blast for his first Reds goal.

But Fulham equalised for a second time in first-half stoppage time, Tete forcing the ball in after Raul Jimenez had flicked on a near-post corner, with VAR overturning the original offside flag.

And the visitors then had a Tim Ream goal ruled out for offside as the sides went in level at the break.

Second half

After the interval Nunez saw a shot deflected behind, and Szoboszlai had two efforts from range, one of which skimmed wide and the other which was saved by Leno.

Nunez then fired against the bar after being played in by Salah on the counter, and the Uruguayan was unable to apply the finish soon after following superb build-up between Szoboszlai and Salah.

Klopp sent on Joe Gomez and Cody Gakpo for Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, while Matip was replaced by Ibrahima Konate after picking up an injury.

But as Liverpool looked for a winner, they were caught on the break as De Cordova-Reid rose highest to head home Tom Cairney’s cross at the back post.

Reds sub Endo had a shot blocked en route to goal, and then Salah blazed over after Diaz’s header had been pushed out by Leno.

Endo levelled late, curling home superbly from Salah’s lay-off, before Nunez’s cross was kept alive at the back post by Kostas Tsimikas, allowing Alexander-Arnold to arrow a sublime 18-yard strike inside Leno’s near post to win it.
