All eyes are on the big one this weekend as Liverpool battles it out with Arsenal for a place at the top of the Premier League at Christmas. To date, it will be the most important match of the campaign.
Having bounced back from last weekend’s dismal goalless draw with Manchester United, the Reds will head into the game full of confidence, with some players getting themselves back into form against West Ham in midweek. With the Gunners sitting just one point ahead before kick-off, it’s an ideal chance to make a big statement in the title race heading toward 2024.
And as the January transfer window approaches, Liverpool could have the chance to strengthen its credentials next month with some smart business. A lot of focus will no doubt be placed on Jurgen Klopp’s defense, while more midfield additions have also been touted recently.
It’s further forward where the latest reports are concerned though, with potential replacements for Mohamed Salah being linked as the Egyptian prepares to head off for the Africa Cup of Nations next month. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Johan Bakayoko (PSV Eindhoven)
Liverpool is reportedly looking at Johan Bakayoko as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to Fichajes. The Spanish outlet claims Jürgen Klopp has asked for the Reds to sign the PSV Eindhoven winger next month.
With Salah heading to the AFCON in January, and amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Liverpool is said to be willing to use its January transfer budget in order to sign Bakayoko. The 20-year-old is rated at around $32m (£25m/€29m).
Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich)
Bakayoko isn’t the only potential Salah heir being touted by Fichajes. The Spanish outlet also reports that Liverpool is ‘seriously considering’ a move for Leroy Sané. Bayern Munich is said to value the winger at $110m (£87m/€100m), although it is unclear whether the Reds would be willing to part with that much cash for his signature.
