Erik ten Hag didn’t get what he wanted for Christmas as his side succumbed to a 2-0 loss against David Moyes’ West Ham side.
It was the latest in another poor run of results for Manchester United and the loss while painful – won’t be as concerning as the performance as it was really poor.
The attack was once again stone cold and blunt while poor Kobbie Mainoo was left on his own for large periods as Scott McTominay gallivanted forward.
After the game, United fans all took to social media to discuss one man – Scott McTominay – and the reactions to his performance said it all.
Fans were reacting to the display against West Ham
One fan wrote: “Everyone can see McTominay and Bruno in midfield doesn’t work, everyone except the one man who picks the team. Baffling how Ten Hag persists with this nonsense.”
A second added that: “I do sympathise with the amount of nonsense ETH has to contend with off the pitch. But he’s not at all immune to criticism for his decisions this season. Sacrificing Fernandes’ attacking quality to persist with McTominay will cost him his job if he continues.”
Another fan argued that: “The creative dearth that McTominay’s presence both directly and indirectly causes can’t be ignored anymore.”
Finally a fan suggested that McTominay starting is a sackable decision: “I still won’t ask for Ten Hag’s sacking. BUT He is literally asking and seemingly begging to be sacked by playing McTominay.”
After this latest display it’s crystal clear that McTominay needs to either start further forward, or not at all.
Shoo-horning him into the team isn’t the move and is impacting countless others – not to mention placing Ten Hag’s job in jeopardy through poor results.
This is something it seems fans are united by, if Ten Hag doesn’t see this and make a change, there’s a serious chance he’ll be under real pressure.
