Tottenham have a number of positions they will be hoping to improve in the January transfer window despite some FFP restrictions. Signing a new defender is the absolute priority, although adding depth in midfield and attack should certainly be on the agenda for Ange Postecoglou and Johan Lange.
The Lilywhites have been hit significantly by injuries this season with Micky van de Ven and James Maddison injured in the same game. Spurs struggled initially without the influential duo but have improved their form as of late despite also losing Rodrigo Bentancur and Giovani Lo Celso to injury.
Ahead of January, a number of players have already been linked with Spurs as Postecoglou aims to ensure a repeat of the Pedro Porro saga does not occur. With that said, football.london has taken a look at five dream targets that Postecoglou could bring to the club in the January transfer window.
Jean-Clair Todibo
Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham and football.london understands talks have been opened over a transfer. The France international is the perfect Postecoglou centre-back with his electric pace meaning he is able to play in a high line.
The 23-year-old’s aggression is another major attribute, although it must be said, like Romero, he is susceptible to a red card but signing him would allow Romero to continue playing on a fine line without the worry Spurs would suffer in his absence.
Serhou Guirassy
Former Tottenham striker Harry Kane is understandably stealing all the headlines in the Bundesliga for his goals but close behind him in the charts is Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy. While Kane has 21 goals for Bayern Munich, Guirassy has already netted 17 times in league action this season.
The 27-year-old also has a €17million (£14.7million) release clause that becomes active in January and with captain Son Heung-min off to the Asia games, it would make sense, given the price, to try and tempt him with a move to north London.
Santiago Gimenez
Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez is in impressive goal-scoring form in the Netherlands under former Spurs managerial target Arne Slot. From 16 games, he has scored 16 goals with goal contributions arriving in last four games in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has interest from Real Madrid and Spurs, although Feyenoord do not appear interested in selling their star striker with a lofty price tag of €100million (£87million) set for the winter window.
Radu Dragusin
With a centre-back needed, Genoa’s Radu Dragusin has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs, especially with his agent’s latest comments about his future. The 21-year-old appears to be on a centre-back shortlist that also includes Tosin Adarabioyo, Todibo and Lloyd Kelly.
However, reports from Italy suggest he will sign a new contract at Genoa with Premier League clubs mentioned as interested parties in an attempt provide leverage. However, he is still certainly a talented defender and if there is a chance to do a deal, it is certainly one worth exploring.
Kalvin Phillips
Signing Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips would hardly be a glamorous move but it would certainly be a smart and realistic one. The midfielder needs regular minutes in order to feature at Euro 2024 for England and therefore a move to Spurs, perhaps initially on loan, makes sense.
The 28-year-old has qualities that Postecoglou likes and with Rodrigo Bentancur out until February along with January exit links for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, signing Phillips could be the perfect transfer.
