Mo Salah’s Saudi transfer advice as Reds eye Atalanta ace

Liverpool have not made any additions so far this month, but manager Jurgen Klopp could be tempted into a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson either now or in the summer

Liverpool are yet to make a new signing this month, with the end of the January transfer window now in sight.

Jurgen Klopp could opt to simply stick with his current crop and hope they have what it takes to fire the Reds to a second Premier League title in four years. But there are links that suggest the Liverpool boss is keen on bringing in some fresh faces before the deadline.

Elsewhere, former Reds captain Jordan Henderson is dominating the headlines once again after his departure from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq was confirmed as the 33-year-old joins Dutch giants Ajax on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Henderson addresses Salah Saudi talk

Jordan Henderson has made clear he has no interest in trying to deter Mohamed Salah from a move to the Saudi Pro League at some point in his career.

Speaking at his unveiling as an Ajax player, the 33-year-old was asked if he’d tell Salah to avoid the transfer given he himself only lasted six months at Al-Ettifaq before returning to Europe.

He replied: “No definitely not. Everyone is different. Big players are there now loving every second of it. You might get others that don’t settle or something happens in their private life.

“Things change quickly. I wouldn’t speak badly of the league or the clubs or anything like that. I have full respect for the opportunity I was given to go there.”

Klopp defends Henderson move

Reds boss Klopp has defended Jordan Henderson’s transfer to Ajax, six months after he left Liverpool for Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq.

Henderson initially penned a two-year deal when he touched down in the Middle East, but didn’t even make the halfway point before returning to Europe. The England interenational received criticism for the move back in July and has also been subject to similar treatment having left.

Klopp has since had his say, claiming: “I am happy for him because it looks like he’s happy and that’s the most important thing for me. I don’t read these stories, people are critical of the move, first there and now coming back.

“I don’t know how we dare to judge, we have one life and sometimes you make decisions and it is different after you make them. Ninety-nine per cent when I spoke to him was football wise, many things to develop there but not critical [of Saudi] but then he thought it was better to come back with his family. Ajax is a sensational club.”

Reds want Ederson

No, not the Manchester City goalkeeper. Liverpool are one of a number of sides keen on landing the signature of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The 24-year-old is incredibly versatile and has plenty of experience both as a defensive midfielder, while also able to contribute in an attacking sense. The Reds aren’t alone in their interest of the Brazilian, with Barcelona, Manchester United and Tottenham all also rumoured to be keeping tabs on Ederson.

Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that Liverpool could make a move for the midfielder in the summer, but a January switch is unlikely given Atalanta are fighting for a return to Champions League football and in the knock-out rounds of the Europa League.
