Liverpool head into the final days of the transfer window not just eyeing any opportunities to add new players to their squad, but also with appointing a new head coach on the agenda.
Last week saw Jurgen Klopp announce that he would be stepping down from the Anfield hotseat come the end of the season in a move that will impact the Reds’ current squad, but perhaps also their ability to land new players. It will prove a monumental moment in recent Liverpool history.
Sunday saw an emotional reception for Klopp, and a team with plenty of young influence put in a good performance to start proving they have what it takes. The likes of Conor Bradley, James McConnell and Jarrell Quansah played pivotal roles in Liverpool’s win over Norwich City to point towards a positive future.
With no January signing yet, there is little time to change that now for the Anfield side. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest rumours surrounding the sides.
Amorim release clause
While Xabi Alonso has emerged as an early favourite to succeed Klopp, reports in Portugal, per Sport Witness, have not ruled out the prospect of the Reds looking at Ruben Amorim. The Sporting boss has reportedly made Liverpool’s shortlist and it is believed that a £17.1million release clause will not be an ‘impediment’ for the Premier League side.
The 38-year-old coach has led Sporting to the top of the table this season and impressed with his ability to develop young players.
Youngster’s agent spotted at Leeds
The agent of young Liverpool forward Mateusz Musialowski has been spotted at Elland Road, according to reports. The 20-year-old striker has been linked with a move to Leeds United this month after scoring six goals in 11 appearances for the Reds’ under-21 side.
It had looked like a move to Birmingham was more likely, according to Sport.PL. But while an agreement was made to join the Blues, the young forward decided not to make the switch despite spending time in the Midlands at the end of last week.
The youngster’s contract is set to expire in the summer. Earlier this season, his agent suggested there was a great deal of interest in the Polish forward from his homeland.
Agent Cezary Kucharski said: “We signed a contract with the condition that I would not persuade him to return to Poland. I don’t want to persuade him to return to Poland, but he has the most offers from his homeland.
“Most clubs want him. I think it should go to the Netherlands, Belgium, or maybe Switzerland.”
Phillips interest
Having returned to Liverpool this month following a disappointing spell with Celtic, Nat Phillips is drawing plenty of Championship interest. The Reds have always planned to loan out the central defender should the right opportunity arise and it seems they may have a number of options to choose from.
Phillips played just 314 minutes across six appearances for the Bhoys but that has not dissuaded prospective clubs. Blackburn Rovers are the latest club hopeful of securing his signature for the remainder of the season according to Mail Online, while Cardiff and Leeds United are also interested in the 26-year-old.
The former Bolton youth product has previously enjoyed loans at Stuttgart and Bournemouth since arriving at the club in 2016.
