To live her “dream life” away from Liverpool, Steven Gerrard’s wife Alex turned down a relocation to Saudi Arabia.

Steven Gerrard has extended his stay with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq until 2027, but it seems his wife Alex has little interest in spending time in the country.

Steven Gerrard continues to split his time between his base in Saudi Arabia and a stunning mansion where wife Alex lives with their children. Liverpool legend Gerrard joined Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq in July 2023 and recently signed a new deal with the club.

He is believed to be earning around $19m (£15m/€18m) a year with the club and was provided with a luxury home in the city of Damman. But wife Alex and children Lilly Ella, 19; Lexie, 17; Lourdes, 12 and Lio, 7 live in a villa in Hamala, Bahrain.

Gerrard commutes along a 15-mile causeway between the countries and was forced to dismiss claims from Saudi media last year that he was permanently based over the border. The Gerrards’ luxurious home costs a monthly fee of $12,700 (£10k/€11.7k) and comes with its own swimming pool and games room.

In addition, their youngest children are now enrolled in one of the world’s top 100 English language schools, where the fees can set you back nearly £11,000 per child. The family are said to enjoy the Ritz’s outdoor bar, where Premier League matches are shown live.

Friends of Alex told the Mail that she is living her ‘dream life’. Meanwhile, a local lawyer and fellow Ritz club member, Mo Al Khalifa, told the same publication that the Gerrards are having a whale of a time in Bahrain.

He mentioned: “Nobody bothers him because it’s not that kind of place. We are used to seeing rich and famous people here. They’re a lovely family, they come together to watch the football, especially if Liverpool are playing and you can tell that they are really enjoying life in Bahrain.”

Gerrard and his clan also reportedly regularly visit Bahrain Rugby Club, where they can unwind with a few drinks amid the expats. The report says that Alex loves visiting Manama’s World Trade Centre, which is home to fashion brands including Gucci and Louis Vuitton, and the Avenues, a shopping center by the water. Bahrain is less strict than Saudi Arabia, making it a popular place for expats who often travel between the two countries.

Daniel McRae, a Reds supporter, said: “Gerrard comes here quite a lot. He likes a beer, he likes to socialize and have a chat about football, and you won’t get that in Saudi Arabia. And it’s easier for women to live here, which is why his wife probably wanted to be here. You can go around in shorts or a vest and nobody will bother you, so that makes Bahrain more attractive.”

Gerrard is now hoping to bring some joy to Al-Ettifaq on the pitch, with their winless run stretching back to October. Former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson left the club after just six months in Saudi Arabia and recently returned to Europe with Ajax.
