Jurgen Klopp has provided a worrying update on Mohamed Salah following his injury for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah was forced off injured in Egypt’s 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday.

He was replaced before half-time with a suspected hamstring injury, with footage of him leaving the stadium emerging online.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Sunday, Klopp was asked about his star man.

The German boss revealed he spoke to Salah following the game, but says the club don’t know the extent of the injury yet.

“We don’t know anything,” he said. “I spoke with him last night, and he will have further assessment. Then we will know more. He felt it, and we all know how rarely Mo goes off, so it’s definitely something. We will see.”

His last words to the 31-year-old before the tournament have seemingly come back to haunt him following the player’s injury.

After the match, Egypt coach Rui Vitoria said: “We don’t know yet what is the problem. I hope it is not a big problem.

“Now, I don’t know because it is early to see something. I think it is not dangerous but let’s see if Salah recovers.”

Salah scored an impressive 18 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions before joining his national team.

Klopp and Liverpool fans alike will be hoping the knock that he suffered against Ghana is not serious.

The Reds, who are fighting on four fronts this season, currently sit at the top of the league, two points clear of Manchester City.
