CINCINNATI — Former Bengals running back Rex Burkhead is retiring.
The 33-year-old made the announcement on Monday. Burkhead spent the first four seasons of his career in Cincinnati, running for 375 yards and three touchdowns in 42 career games.
The Bengals picked him in the sixth-round (190th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was primarily a special teamer in Cincinnati.
Burkhead signed with the Patriots in free agency after the 2016 season. He won one Super Bowl (LIII) during his four seasons in New England. He ended his Patriots tenure with 1,026 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, while catching 96 passes for 856 yards and seven touchdowns in 41 regular season games.
