The Chelsea midfielder is said to be a player Ange Postecoglou really likes, and while the 23-year-old stayed at Chelsea in January, the summer window may be the end of the road for Gallagher at Stamford Bridge
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been discussing Conor Gallagher’s future, and he reckons the midfielder could be sold this summer in order for Chelsea to comply with FFP rules.
Chelsea have spent an incredible amount over the past 18 months on transfers, and according to Allardyce, Gallagher may be the player sacrificed in order for the books to be balanced.
If he goes for £40m or £50m that’s half of what they want to get in. That’s why Everton have been selling the past few years to make sure they don’t get to where they are now. He might be the one who has to be sacrificed, and it’s a shame because he’s Chelsea through and through,” Allardyce said.
As Allardyce says, it’s a massive shame that this is the way football is going.
In the past, as an academy product who has been acting as club captain, Gallagher would’ve been earmarked as a lifelong Chelsea player, but now, with FFP rules rewarding clubs selling their own academy graduates, it does make sense to sell the England international.
Tottenham weren’t able to get a deal over the line in the January transfer window, but come the summer, it could be a different story entirely as Chelsea look to cash-in on some players in order to recoup some cash after a long period of overspending
