Chelsea handed ultimate humiliation as Nottingham Forest show up Todd Boehly

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has faced criticism for his scattergun approach to transfer business

Chelsea‘s transfer track record since the takeover of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital has left plenty to be desired. The Blues spent extortionately over the first 12 months of their new ownership regime, but many of the recruits are failing to deliver on the pitch, so much so that fellow trigger-happy transfer fanatics Nottingham Forest have got one up on the Londoners.

Forest and Chelsea have been at the forefront of transfer gossip columns since the start of the 2022/23 season. The Tricky Trees have made an astonishing 39 signings during that time, doing just enough to stay in the Premier League last campaign.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have splashed out on 25 permanent recruits, including nine-figure midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. Only a fraction of their arrivals have made a successful start to life at Stamford Bridge, however.

Despite the gargantuan fees spent on many Blues signings, and their comparatively comfortable Premier League standing, Chelsea newcomers have notched fewer goal contributions as a collective than Forest’s raft of recruits

Granted, the Tricky Trees have a larger pool of signings making up their total of 96 Premier League goals and assists, but many of them hardly featured at the City Ground. Just to name a few; Loic Bade and Andrey Santos left without making a single league appearance, while Josh Bowler has spent the entire time out on loan since signing from Blackpool.

Morgan Gibbs-White (18 goal contributions), Taiwo Awoniyi (18 goal contributions), Chris Wood (12 goal contributions) and Anthony Elanga (10 goal contributions) are their biggest hitters, with Forest enjoying their fair share of transfer success in spite of numerous fruitless moves.
