· Linebacker Les Kelley (Cullman, Alabama): 1967 by the New Orleans Saints. As an expansion team preparing for its first NFL season, New Orleans had the No. 1 pick in the 1967 draft. But the Saints traded the selection to the Baltimore Colts for Johnny Unitas’ backup, Gary Cuozzo, so Kelley, as the final pick of the first round, became the first player drafted by New Orleans. Kelley came into the NFL as a fullback but played mainly linebacker in his three seasons with New Orleans.
