NFL Insider: Why Giants Are Sticking with QB….see more

The New York Giants’ request to move up from the sixth overall pick in order to gain position to choose quarterback Drake Maye of North Carolina may be one of the worst-kept secrets of the 2024 NFL Draft. After these discussions came to naught, the Giants decided to stick with No. 6 wide receiver Malik Nabers from LSU in order to provide the offence more offensive firepower, instead of searching for another quarterback.

“I know they said going into this draft process, ‘Well, we’re going to land that guy if we think is going to be a franchise-changing quarterback.'” On The Rich Eisen Show, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo stated. “If not, we will attempt to encircle Daniel Jones with playmakers.” Jones is anticipated to start once he is cleared to return from an ACL tear, according to statements made both before and after the selection by Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. Although Jones is expected to be prepared for training camp in a few months, it is unclear if he will be able to fully engage in all of the activities.

That’s where Lock’s possible push becomes relevant. The coaches appear to be more confident in Lock’s ability to lead the offence if Jones isn’t ready to start the season, even though it may not be a traditional competition because Jones is unlikely to play in preseason games, giving Lock the opportunity to possibly gain the competitive edge.
