NORMAN — Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso noticed a difference in Alyssa Brito this week.
“Very free, very loose, very competitive,” Gasso described Brito’s mentality coming up to the Sooners’ super regional game against Florida State.
Brito looked the part Thursday, hitting two home runs and adding a double as second-seeded OU defeated the Seminoles 11-3 in five innings at Love’s Field to move within one game of the Women’s College World Series.
“It’s the last time we get to play at Love’s Field together so for me, I’m just enjoying these moments,” Brito said. “Trying to take that into (Oklahoma City). Hopefully we can get there next week and take it day-by-day and pitch-by-pitch and being present in everybody’s at-bats. Just doing it together.”
Thursday’s effort was undoubtedly communal.
Kelly Maxwell wasn’t as sharp as she had been recently, but she persevered through five innings to win the game.
Alynah Torres and Cydney Sanders shook out of long-term slumps with massive hits.
Tiare Jennings hit her 95th career home run, tying Lauren Chamberlain, while Kinzie Hansen also homered.
