One of the most important places where national commentators believe the Detroit Lions can improve is at wide receiver.
General manager Brad Holmes has remained quiet at the position, allowing Josh Reynolds to join with the Denver Broncos and re-signing Donovan Peoples-Jones for a one-year contract. The Lions did not pursue a wide receiver in the draft and have yet to make a significant addition to the position.
However, the team may still pull off a surprise this offseason. Tee Higgins, a top wideout with the Cincinnati Bengals, has requested a trade and is without a long-term contract.
As a result, Maurice Morton of Bleacher Report recently mentioned the Lions as one of five teams that could deal for Higgins. In the hypothetical trade, the Lions would get Higgins in return for 2025 second- and fourth-round draft picks.
“The Detroit Lions shouldn’t take their foot off the gas after an appearance in the NFC Championship Game, not with $31 million in cap space,” Morton stated. “They’ve just started their Super Bowl run with a top-five scoring attack. Perhaps they can make it a little further in the playoffs with the NFL’s greatest passing offense. Detroit’s opponents would face a difficult time in neutralizing the previous year’s No. 2 aerial attack, as well as Higgins, who would bolster a shallow receiver group.
