Baseball’s hottest prospect heading into the 2024 season was none other than Jackson Holliday. Despite his age, the 20-year-old second baseman was sure to receive his chance in the major leagues.
And he did got his chance; the Baltimore Orioles and he had not anticipated the outcome. Holliday’s 10-game tenure with the Orioles saw him go 2-of-34. All Baltimore could do was acknowledge that he wasn’t ready and return him to the lower leagues.
The top MLB prospect, Scott German of the Augusta Free Press, stated on Wednesday that he doesn’t believe he is “far off” from returning to the main leagues.
Holliday’s issue is that, while he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire for Norfolk, his performance may not be sufficient to warrant another call-up this year. Jorge Mateo has made himself unstoppable at second base, which is why.
Mateo snapped the tie against the Rampa Bay Rays on Friday with an RBI double, making him the hero of the game.
That hit helped the Orioles celebrate a 3-1 victory. Orioles supporters and the media had a wonderful chance to consider how significant Mateo has grown this season during the game-winning moment.
