The mother of Deontay Wilder claimed to have texted her son on Saturday following his devastating fifth-round knockout loss to Zhilei Zhang.

Deborah Wilder wrote, “Son, we’re having a party for you,” in a text message to him on Sunday, according to USA TODAY Sports. “When boxing seemed dead, you provided us the best boxing in the USA. You are now older. You have completed your journey.

“It’s time to celebrate.”

After suffering his fourth loss in his last five fights, the former WBC heavyweight champion would not speak to the Saudi Arabian media, and Deborah Wilder claimed she had not spoken to him since the bout. However, the 38-year-old boxer said that if he lost the heavyweight match, he would call it quits before the contest.

At 1:51 of the fifth round, Zhang, a 6-foot-6, 283-pound Chinese boxer, delivered a right hand that stopped the fight and probably put an end to Wilder’s stellar career. 2008 saw him win a bronze medal at the Olympics, and in 2015 he became the first heavyweight champion from the United States since 2007.

The belt was his till 2020.

As of right now, Wilder has a 43-4-1 record with 42 knockouts, many of which are of highlight-reel calibre.

Deborah Wilder remarked, “He brought boxing back to the USA, and we enjoyed all those knockouts.”

“I’m going to review the things I taped. “We will laugh and we will cry. But we will be content.”

Apart from leaving his mark as a boxer, Deontay Wilder is also a husband and the parent of eight kids. His mother claims he was raised in poverty in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but that he is now a wealthy man. Although she expressed support for Deontay’s choice to box again, she gave the impression that she was leaning more in the other direction.

Deborah Wilder said, “Enjoy your life now.” “Teach other young men how to become a champion.”
