Welcome to Shaving Strokes, a GOLF.com series where amateur golfers just like you share their improvements, lessons learned, and key takeaways, along with some of the roadblocks and difficulties they encountered. One more week, one more Scottie

Another week, another victory for Scottie Scheffler, who last weekend defeated his friend Tom Kim in a playoff at the Travelers Championship.

Is the result really that surprising to anyone? Probably not, save from the fact that Scheffler was forced into additional holes. After all, the player ranked #1 in the world has already won six (!) events this year, and that’s before July has even arrived. Arnold Palmer was the last golfer to accomplish that in 1962.

Indeed, Scheffler has exclusive access to the world of golf; everyone else is merely a guest.

Though Scheffler’s performance this year is evident from the numbers, he has made a significant improvement on the greens, where he has climbed the Strokes Gained: Putting rankings.

In contrast, he placed 162nd in same area the previous year. So far in 2024? It’s incredible that he’s improved so much to rank 80th, and it’s clear that this has helped him steal victory after victory.

Phil Kenyon, the man who has assisted Scheffler, is well-known for being a putting expert, so it isn’t shocking that his fingerprints are all over this.

While Scheffler’s stellar season to date has been attributed to a number of different elements, Kenyon recently highlighted a 3-target putting exercise that has been crucial in keeping Scheffler’s regimen simple and his thoughts clear. See below for how (and why) it functions. Using Phil Kenyon as the Guru He spent a lot of time assisting players in getting the ball started on the desired line.
