NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Agree to 1-Year Contract for Spencer Dinwiddie

Spencer Dinwiddie is reportedly on the move again after agreeing to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Mavericks and guard agreed to a one-year deal on Monday.

Dinwiddie started last season with the Brooklyn Nets before being traded to the Toronto Raptors on Feb. 8. He became a free agent after receiving a buyout from Toronto.

Despite receiving interest from the Mavericks, who he previously played with from 2022-23, Dinwiddie opted to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers for the stretch run.

Dinwiddie had a solid 28-game run with the Lakers to close the regular season. He averaged 6.8 points on 38.9 percent three-point shooting to help Los Angeles earn the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.

There is always some level of volatility to Dinwiddie’s performance, but he can be a valuable role player when things are going well. The 31-year-old tends to be at his best in a situation where he can hang out by the three-point line and get fed the ball.

It’s not a coincidence Dinwiddie’s best shooting stretches came when he played with LeBron James and Luka Dončić. He connected on 40.4 percent of his three-point attempts in 76 games with the Mavs.

Dallas surely remembered that and took advantage of the opportunity to sign him as it looks to make another run to the NBA Finals.
