Texas WR Ryan Wingo looking unstoppable early in fall camp

The receiving corps is stacked up and down the position group for Texas early in fall camp.

After the first two practices of fall camp, there is plenty to unpack for Texas football regarding notes and takeaways before things start to ramp up and the team puts on the full pads. We’ve started to see how the two-deep depth chart is shaping up on both sides of the ball and how new additions to the program have fared early in training camp.

Texas football has an immediate impact freshman on their hands with first-year stud Ryan Wingo

At many position groups on each side of the ball, we’re seeing the new additions to the program among both true freshmen and transfers making a big impact in practice.

There might not be a better example of multiple immediate impact additions to the program from this offseason making waves for a reloaded position group than with the receiving corps. New faces on campus, like true freshman Ryan Wingo, junior Isaiah Bond, and senior Silas Bolden have stolen the spotlight in the receiving corps from the very start of the first day of fall practice this week.

Wingo has probably been the most heavily discussed (in a good way) true freshman for the Longhorns early in preseason camp. In the last couple of days, Wingo has made his presence known with some nice plays and consistent effort and results shown in individual and one-on-one receiver drills.

OTF’s CJ Vogel reported on Aug. 2 (premium content) that Wingo has been a force to be reckoned with early in fall practice. A team source reportedly told him that “no one can cover” Wingo in one-on-one receiver drills this fall camp.

Wingo has not only been one of the toughest matchups for the Texas defensive backs in the first two days of fall practice this week but also one of the fastest wideouts in workouts and individual drills. From multiple regards, it looks like Wingo is doing everything he can to force the coaching staff to get him consistent early reps in live-game action this coming regular season.

But Wingo is not the only wideout who has impressed in one-on-one drills in practice in the last two days. Bolden has also stolen the show with his ability to make contest catches and flat-out burn opposing DBs one-on-one.

Both Wingo and Bolden have taken the bulk of the second-team practice reps at receiver in the first two days of camp. Watch out for them to continue to elevate their standing on the two-deep for Texas’s wide receiver room if they keep up these level of performances in practices in the coming days and weeks in camp.
