Angel Reese is probably going to make WNBA history as a rookie. However, her astonishing number of double-doubles are marred by awful shooting percentages while Caitlin Clark continues to shoot the lights out!
The No. 1 overall pick is the clear frontrunner for ‘Rookie of the Year’ and it’s not particularly close.
Reese broke a franchise record on Thursday night in an ugly 20-point loss to the Phoenix Mercury. She passed Sylvia Fowles for the most offensive rebounds in a single season in Chicago Sky history.
However, the result overshadowed the individual statistic. Reese was quick to shut down a reporter’s question about the record after the game because her focus was on the team. It was an emotional response after a demoralizing defeat.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Fever took a thinly-veiled shot at the No. 7 overall pick by promoting their own superstar rookie as the Rookie of the Year.
It would be shocking if Caitlin Clark didn’t receive the honor at this point. She is averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game on 40.5% shooting— and 32.7% from three.
Angel Reese is not having the same success despite frequent double-doubles. The numbers are deceiving!
The 22-year-old forward recorded her 18th double-double of the season on Thursday with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Only Tina Charles, one of the best players in WNBA history, had more as a rookie. Reese is four more double-doubles away from breaking her record.
