The Los Angeles Lakers have a history of failing at previous attempts of blowing up the Dallas Mavericks roster.
At 25 years old, Doncic is at the prime of his career. He arguably started his prime in his second season of action.
Now, the Lakers have rumored to have a master plan to lure Doncic away from Dallas one day, and they have their eyes on him.
The Lakers have known to embarrass themselves trying to lure away Mavs players.
The Lakers are known to try and pull a fast one like this against the Mavericks.
Kobe Bryant tried to lure in Dirk Nowitzki to wear a purple and gold uniform. But of course, as loyal as Nowitzki was to his team, he refused to wear any other jersey besides a Mavericks one.
The Lakers also tried to get Klay Thompson, but the Mavericks beat them to the punch in the offseason.
Fans were once concerned about Doncic’s future in Dallas, but earlier in the season, Doncic gave a promising message that will have Mavs fans confident in his future as a Maverick for life.
“I’m really happy where I’m at,” Doncic said.
Mavs fans hope that fame and fortune won’t break the bond between Doncic and the Mavs organization. Doncic is coming off his best season in the NBA, winning the scoring title in 2024.
One concern might be if he doesn’t win a championship in Dallas in the next few years, Doncic might look elsewhere. LeBron James might have two more years in the NBA, and this could open up the door for Doncic and a new deal if he wants it. Also, James was Doncic’s age when James first left Cleveland at 25 years old.
However, James did not have a great supporting cast during his first tenure with Cleveland. Not to mention, Anthony Davis is known to be injury prone, and if the Lakers keep him and if he continues to get injured, it’s hard to see Doncic happy in that position.
Doncic will arguably have his best roster standing by his side in his sixth NBA season. With an NBA Finals appearance in his resume, Doncic has much more to come in his professional career with the Mavs, and it would take a monumental collapse to not see him in a Maverick uniform.
