Tammy Abraham and Alexis Saelemaekers are undergoing their medicals for Milan and Roma respectively after the clubs agreed a loan swap.
The negotiations had reached an impasse last night with a significant gap between the request and demand over the additional fee to be paid for this exchange.
Roma wanted €10m and the Rossoneri were only ready to offer €7m.
So with the transfer deadline looming tonight at 11pm UK time, they decided it was best to simply exchange the two players on dry loans.
This means there is no option to buy at the end of the season, effectively kicking that can down the road for later discussion.
Saelemaekers landed at Fiumicino Airport in Rome this morning ready for his medical, while Abraham did the same in Milan.
The Rossoneri had targeted the England striker for months, as he was a specific request from new coach Paulo Fonseca.
