According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are holding their breath on if they can move for the Portuguese international after Palhinha went off injured against Brentford in Philadelphia with a dislocated shoulder.
Valued by the Cottagers at £60m, Palhinha is a target for Liverpool to replace the Saudi Arabia-bound Fabinho, yet this injury could prevent the Anfield side from signing the Fulham star.
With West Ham also interested in signing Palhinha, Liverpool already face one roadblock in their bid to bring the 28-year-old dynamo to Anfield this summer.
And this latest injury update will do favours for Liverpool, with time slowly running out for Jurgen Klopp to sign a midfielder to replace Fabinho as well as Jordan Henderson.
Indeed, the severity of Palhinha’s injury is yet to be determined. But with Liverpool now sweating over the midfielder, it’s likely to assume that a deal could now be off for this summer.
Palhinha to Liverpool could now be put on ice until January
Palhinha being out for the next few weeks could all but ruin Liverpool’s chances of signing the midfielder this summer. And as a result, a deal might now have to be put on hold until the January window.
A dislocated shoulder could realistically keep Palhinha out until September, just after the closure of the summer market, meaning Liverpool should now be looking at new targets for the midfield position.
Whilst other options are likely already on Liverpool’s mind, Palhinha could have been a dream signing for the Reds, and this injury has come at the worst possible time for Klopp and his team.
