Zvonimir Boban shares his thoughts on ‘his’ Milan. The former Milan player and executive said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport:
“Unfortunately, we’re still in court, but for me, Milan is always Milan. I have a lot of respect for the work Fonseca did at Shakhtar, Lille, and his early days in Rome. He has just arrived in Milan, and we need to give him time, but what worries me is that he still isn’t sure that this team can and must only play with a 4-3-3 formation. This way, the midfielders can provide balance and support to the very offensive wingers like Leao and Pulisic. Reijnders can’t play in a two-man midfield, Loftus isn’t creative enough to play as a number ten. They are both midfielders who carry the ball, not true playmakers. Fonseca is just getting started, he is intelligent, and I hope he can correct things because, beyond the results, the real problem is the game, which currently doesn’t exist.”
Boban spoke about Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao cooling break’s controversy:
“They made mistakes and then turned the game around. I hope everything settles, they’re good guys.”
Regarding Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he said:
“Zlatan is a genius, and I will thank him for life because, out of love for Milan, he agreed to come back, changing the club’s recent history and all of ours. That said, now I don’t understand what he does, what his responsibilities are, and his competencies to judge him. I hope he has understood them because, in the end, he will be the one judged, not Moncada. The fact remains that the Scudetto-winning team and the Champions League semifinalists were recklessly dismantled. So much could have been built on that foundation. To me, it was a colossal mistake.”
