AC Milan have confirmed that midfielder Ismael Bennacer has undergone surgery on an injury just a day before hosting Liverpool in the Champions League. The Reds travel to Italy to face the Serie A giants in their first league phase fixture of the competition.
Arne Slot’s team go to the San Siro on Tuesday night to face Milan in the Champions League. However, Milan will be without one of their key players for the game due to injury.
Bennacer suffered a calf injury during the international break while training with the Algeria squad. The midfielder subsequently returned to Milan for further tests, and it was determined that he would need to undergo surgery.
Milan confirmed in a statement that Bennacer had undergone successful surgery on the calf injury. However, the 26-year-old now faces several months on the sidelines recovering from the injury.
“AC Milan can confirm that Ismael Bennacer underwent surgery in Finland this morning,” the statement read.
“The operation on his right calf was performed by Dr Lasse Lempainen. His recovery period is estimated to be four months.”
