Official: Ismael Bennacer undergoes surgery and set….see more

AC Milan have announced that Ismael Bennacer has successfully undergone surgery to repair a tear in his calf muscle, also confirming his estimated recovery time.

Bennacer sustained the injury during a training camp with the Algerian national team over the recent break and there were initial fears regarding the severity of the issue when he was seen using a wheelchair in the airport before his flight home.

The tests the midfielder underwent when he landed confirmed a severe lesion of the medial gemellus muscle of the right calf. A specialist re-evaluation was then to be carried out a week later in order to define the best treatment for full functional recovery, and that came today.

In a statement on the official website, the club have written the following: ‘AC Milan can confirm that Ismaël Bennacer underwent surgery in Finland this morning. The operation on his right calf was performed by Dr Lasse Lempainen. His recovery period is estimated to be four months.’

Fast-forwarding four months takes us to the middle of January, after the Supercoppa Italiana is scheduled out in the Middle East. Given the period of absence, it might be that the Juventus away game on 19 January is too soon, so the Champions League game against Girona a few days later could be a target.
