Paulo Fonseca was joined by Rafael Leao in the press conference room at the BayArena yesterday evening, and a report has suggested that it could mark a ‘new era’ in the relationship between the two.
Calciomercato.com write that in the presser the Portuguese seemed much more aligned with the ideas of Fonseca who, from day one, asked him to work more in the defensive phase, preparatory to completing his technical repertoire.
Leao’s sensitivity is known to all those who know him directly and indirectly. The spectrum of reaction goes from showing empathy to a team-mate in difficulty to demonstrating resentment towards criticism, like in the Paolo Di Canio case.
During an interview with Sky just before the conferences, Leao made it clear that he is not immune to feeling a bit down after reading negative words: “The criticism of the fans hurts, something has changed in my regard since two years ago.”
What does he mean when he says ‘two years ago’? The winger is most likely referring to Scudetto win, given that expectations of him have increased since the afternoon of celebration against Sassuolo and the fact he was crowned the league MVP.
