Gds: Penalty conceded and Missed, red card – Theo Hernandez’s disastrous birthday….. see more

Theo Hernandez turned 27 yesterday, and his performance against Fiorentina meant that it was a birthday to forget with the armband on.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write that it is quite strange to think that Theo has turned 27. It should be the age of full maturity, the age when – especially after a bad game from the whole team – it would be necessary to avoid adding an unpleasant burden.

To tell the story of the Frenchman’s dark night, it is inevitable to start from the end, which was the straight red card that he was given by Luca Pairetto after some excessive protests. Aggravating circumstance: he was the captain.

The minimum suspension will be two days of suspension, and technically it can increase based on what Pairetto writes on the report (in the next three games, Milan will face Udinese, Bologna and Napoli).

The only ray of light on an otherwise dreadful evening was the assist for Christian Pulisic’s equaliser, but again the Frenchman continued his trend: when he has bad days there is no in between, it is usually a very bad day.

Theo gave away a penalty that appeared soft but it was also an avoidable intervention (he was at the edge of the area, not two steps away from goal). Then he missed a penalty at the other end, taking on a responsibility that should not have been his, as Paulo Fonseca made clear after the game.

Theo took the ball from Morata’s arms (even though Pulisic should have actually shot) and failed to beat Davide De Gea. In the second half, he risked giving away a second penalty with a tackle on Colpani. This time the VAR check acquitted him, but the red mist descended at full-time to end his birthday in the worst way.
