Disagreed goal and red card: referee Feliciani and his VAR team….see more

There were a couple of controversial decisions that took place during AC Milan’s win over Monza last night involving the referee Feliciani and his VAR team.

Monza boss Alessandro Nesta made it clear that he was furious about the officiating during last night’s game, in particular because of an incident that happened early on and could have seen his side take the lead.

The Biancorossi thought they had got themselves the lead in the eighth minute when a knockdown from Djuric was buried via a deflection from Dany Mota. However, the referee disallowed the goal for a foul in the build-up on Theo Hernandez that looked debatable.

The X account Errori Arbitrali took a look at the incident, remarking on the disallowed goal: “If at a procedural level the choice of Feliciani (perhaps not convinced already on the field) to let the play end can be (at a purely protocol level) supported, the technical referee’s choice is debatable.

“The DAZN lens highlights how it would have been more correct to let the action continue on contact Bondo / Theo, with the Rossoneri greatly accentuating the slight (and initially reciprocal) holding of the opponent. Error by the referee and not by the VAR.”

On the flip side, Warren Bondo perhaps should have been penalised for a pull on Christian Pulisic as the winger tried to break away, and while he was on a yellow card.

The same account tweeted: “Feliciani also makes a mistake at the end: on a ball lost and recovered by Pulisic there is a prolonged hold by Bondo on the attacker of #Fonseca which does not allow him to counter. The second yellow is missing for CA (Unsporting Conduct).”
