JUST IN: Fonseca must continue putstubbornness aside…see more

AC Milan kept their second consecutive clean sheet against Empoli and displayed great signs of improvement. As highlighted by Andrea Longoni, Paulo Fonseca must continue to put his initial stubbornness aside.

After months of ups and downs, above all struggling in the defensive phase, Milan now have two consecutive clean sheets. They have the addition of Yunus Musah to the midfield to thank for this, as also highlighted by Daniele Longo, and the Rossoneri must continue on this path.

As stated by Andrea Longoni in his latest editorial for MilanNews, it’s great that Fonseca has found a solution that works for Milan. On the other hand, it took months to get there and that’s a shame given that the situation in the standings is already complicated.

“Against Empoli last night, a convincing victory finally arrived, without risks and fears (Maleh’s crossbar aside). Something that hasn’t happened in the league for ages. The three points are of fundamental importance to try to recover ground in the Champions League race: it will be a long mission.

“The second consecutive clean sheet was also registered (the sixth in the league). It’s no coincidence that with an extra midfielder, Fonseca’s team is decidedly more balanced. It’s a shame to have wasted months stubbornly insisting on the ultra-offensive formation with four forwards.

“The hope is that the coach continues on this path, also because the team’s attacking threat isn’t affected, as demonstrated by the three goals scored,” he wrote.

Atalanta are up next in the league, while Milan will take on Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday evening. Some rotation is expected for that game given the importance of the Bergamo clash.
