“Two Reasons We Won’t Sign Anyone In January, AC Milan Owner Out Of Line,” said Inter Milan President

The Nerazzurri President spoke to DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of today’s Serie A clash with Como. He also denied that Inter would sign any players in January for “two reasons.”

Yesterday, remarks came out from Milan owner Gerry Cardinale taking aim at Inter.

The Rossoneri owner was speaking about his strategy for running his club as a sustainable business.

Cardinale stated that Inter had gone “bankrupt” after winning the Serie A title in 2021..

That is certainly not true as the Nerazzurri did not “go bankrupt” as a club. However, Cardinale was presumably referring to the fact that Suning defaulted on their debt.

The previous Inter owners had tried to hold onto control of the club.

However, Suning’s own financial situation eventually made it impossible for them to stay on.

Control of the club passed into the hands of Oaktree Capital after Suning failed to repay what they owed.

Inter President Marotta admitted that he “didn’t want to talk” about Cardinale’s statements.

“But now I think I have to respond.”

“His comments were out of line,” Marotta hit out.

“They were disrespectful of the prestige and image of the club.”

“I think Cardinale was a bit confused with what he said,” the Inter President argued.

“It’s true that in recent years, our majority shareholders had financial difficulties. However, a few years ago they took on support from Oaktree, who now own the club.”

“However, the management of Inter is an entirely separate matter,” Marotta clarified.

“We comply with Financial Fair Play rules. And with national license requirements. That are very strict in terms of financial compliance.”

“And we reduced our losses from €246 million to €36 million last year,” Marotta noted.

“In which we won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa.”

“And since it’s Christmas, I’ll add a bit of irony. We also won the second star, and we’re the only team in Milan who have it.”

Meanwhile, Marotta spoke about Inter’s goals for next year.

“The first trophy to fight for is the Supercoppa,” noted the Inter President. “Which we’ve won in each of the last three seasons.”

“We want to make our grip on that trophy even more solid.”

“And then we’re participating in a number of competitions. We’re obliged to take advantage of every opportunity to aim high.”

“We have to be competitive,” Marotta said. “And win as many matches as possible.

Meanwhile, Marotta addressed the possibility of signings during the January transfer window amid Inter’s injury crisis.

“I don’t think we’ll make any signings in the January transfer window,” said the Inter Preisdent.

“Because we have a competitive squad that meets our demands.”

“And then, another reason, because the January window doesn’t usually offer good opportunities,” Marotta noted.

“Because we’re Inter and we already have a high-quality level, I don’t think we’ll do anything,” Marotta said. “Because the squad gives us a guarantee for the future.”

Of the fierce Serie A title race, Marotta admitted “I didn’t imagine it would be like this.”

“But that’s the beauty of this league,” said the Nerazzurri President. “Compared to other European leagues, ours is the most competitive.”

“But it’s still early,” Marotta cautioned.

“We’re in an interim phase. Maybe later on, the positions at the top will be defined more clearly.”

“For now we’re seeing a title race with a lot of teams close together at the top,” said the Nerazzurri President.

And Marotta made clear he has no doubts about the future of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

“The results speak for themselves,” he said.

“Inzaghi has integrated into this club very well. He’s proven to be a great professional.

“I hope, and I’m convince, that our union with him can last for a long time.”
