Building on that, Gerard Romero has come up with an update, providing more details about the agreement between the La Liga champions and the Portuguese international.
Cancelo’s salary will be around €6 million
As per the report from Romero, Barcelona have a total agreement in place with super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Cancelo.
As per the terms agreed, the 29-year-old right-back will be on a salary worth around €6 million.
It had been previously suggested that Cancelo’s wages could come up to around €14 million per season, but the right-back was willing to accept a pay cut in order to secure a move to Barça.
And it appears that things have indeed gone that way, with the Manchester City defender seemingly reducing his salary by more than half to sign for the La Liga champions.
Barcelona, Man City in talks
With an agreement with the player in place, it is now up to Barcelona to convince Manchester City to let Cancelo leave on terms that would be favourable and financially feasible.
The Cityzens have been looking to offload the 29-year-old permanently, but the Blaugrana wish to sign him on a season-long loan deal with a purchase clause inserted.
It could become a point of contention in talks between the two clubs, although Mendes would be expected to smooth things over. Another sticking point could be the loan fee that Man City might demand.
Either way, things are progressing in the right direction as far as Barcelona and their pursuit of Cancelo is concerned. And it appears that Xavi might get his priority right-back target after all.
